vegetarian, vegan & gluten-free
Pete's takes special dietary needs very seriously. For one thing, 13-year-old "Little Pete" (co-owners Alicia and Joel Mehr's son) has been an avowed vegetarian since age 5. Learn more.
We offer many vegetarian and dairy-free items, listed below, but may also be able to prepare certain dishes from the regular menu without meat or dairy on request, either by substituting or omitting the ingredients you need to exclude from your diet. Just ask for a manager or a chef or one of the owners (Tom, Joel or Tri) before you place your order, as not all cashiers may have the specialized knowledge needed to fulfill special orders.

Background
Pete's Executive Chef and co-owner Tom Marr specialized in nutrition and special dietary needs at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA), and before co-founding Pete's worked at several fine-dining restaurants with a high volume of customers with special dietary needs, including the acclaimed Flying Fish Cafe at Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida. His training and experience have taught him that when a customer comes to him with a dietary restriction, the stakes for that person may be quite high.
We're proud to say that we've offered a gluten-free pizza crust since the day we first opened in early 2008, well before gluten-free became a "growth market" and thus a marketing ploy for many restaurants. In fact, our gluten-free crust was developed by Chef Dan Fogg (Friendship Heights), whose own CIA education included a specialization in pastry arts. Dan's GF crusts are prepared in-house daily using the freshest ingredients. In other words, we do not sell pizza on pre-made GF crusts from a third-party vendor to "capture the gluten-free customer." You deserve better.
